Highland Park is the 40th wealthiest city in the United States and the 19th wealthiest city with a population of over 1,000. It is the 3rd wealthiest location in Texas by per capita income. The area is known for its high quality of living, beautiful parks, proximity to downtown Dallas and shopping, excellent public schools, and some of the most palatial and expensive homes in the region. Because Highland Park forms an enclave within the city of Dallas, about five miles north of downtown, the communities have little room to grow. Population has remained relatively stable in recent decades: about 9,000 in Highland Park.
Most of the city (areas east of Roland Avenue) is served by the Highland Park Independent School District. The HPISD portion is served by McCulloch Middle School and Highland Park Middle School, which share a campus located partially in Highland Park and partially in University Park. Highland Park High School, in nearby University Park, was ranked as the 15th best high school in the United States by the Jay Mathews Challenge Index used by Newsweek in 2008. If you have the means and the desire to reside in one of the most elite and prestigious neighborhoods in all of Dallas, Highland Park is where you want to live!
