Set among rolling hills and wooded lots of North Oak Cliff, Kiestwood Estates was built between 1950 and 1965 to meet the needs of post-war families with good jobs and for the up-and-coming managers and executives who worked at nearby defense plants in the Oak Cliff, Grand Prairie and Fort Worth areas. This new, upscale community of homes represented an eclectic mix of traditional ranch style homes and custom built contemporaries, with a splash of Dilbeck-inspired styles. Architectural details like wrought iron and iron lace trimmed porches, ceramic tiled baths, formal living areas, dens with knotty pine paneling and fireplaces, and large open yards are typical in this lovely neighborhood. Kiestwood Estates was also one of the first neighborhoods in Dallas to have homes with master bedrooms that included walk-in closets, vanities, and custom built-ins in the dressing area. These features distinguished Kiestwood Estates' homes from most of the other middle class neighborhoods in Dallas.
Kiestwood Estates has over 400 homes and is located between Kiest Boulevard to the north, Southwood Drive to the south, Hampton Road to the east, and Cedarhurst Drive to the west. This mix of houses all blend to form one of the finest surviving style examples that take us back to the idyllic settings and times of Leave It to Beaver and Father Knows Best.
One of Dallas' largest public parks, Kiest Park, offering walk/bike trails, baseball fields, tennis courts, a recreation center with basketball courts and exercise facilities, and picnic facilities, is within walking distance from the neighborhood. Additionally, downtown Dallas is only 9 miles away and the historic Bishop Arts District is a mere 5 miles away, which are added bonuses that are attracting homeowners to the neighborhood. More than its great location, style and open yards, Kiestwood Estates is noted for having great neighbors, and residents who are fiercely proud to be "Cliff Dwellers!"
